BDD’S FATHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE – ON A BUDGET

Highlights from the Ecosystem

The lockdown restrictions may be easing, but budgets for gifts are still tight. This shouldn’t let you miss out on gifting your father this Father’s Day. Just remember, the most important factor when choosing the perfect gift is to find out what your dad is missing, then shop local and support local businesses. That way everyone is happy.

BDD has compiled a father’s day gift guide, for all types of dads (and budgets):

Gift your dad an experience

Having been in lockdown for months, a breath of fresh air is always a good treat. Book a bed and breakfast or hotel experience for your father, outside of the city. Check out www.hotelibanais.com for the most charming bed and breakfasts and guesthouses across Lebanon, and give back to the town it is located in.

If he has a hobby or passion

If your dad has any type of hobby or something he is passionate about, create a gift basket. For example, if he has a flair for gardening, now is the perfect time to turn balconies into mini farms. Put together a gift basket with pots, tools and seeds, and watch nature takes its course (Check out the Garden in a Box concept by Arbusta by Unifert). If your father is into fitness, a new pair of sneakers and workout clothes, would be ideal (Check out Mike Sport). If you want him to get fit and healthy, put together a few treats and snacks from a local store (Check out Better Life Market or Eshmoon Holistics). Or even buy him a cookbook of his favorite cuisine, and let the culinary magic happen (Check out Levantine Harvest by Lara Ariss).

Make a donation in his name

There are hundreds of NGOs giving back to communities and areas of Lebanon that need the most attention. Surely, your father would appreciate a donation in his name, for a cause he supports. From food box donations that you can easily order online, to community projects around you. The Lebanese Food Bank is receiving donations on their website for food boxes, distributed to those in need, and organizations such as Offre Joie have prepared Foodkit donations, that can be processed through the noknok app. Give back in his name, and let him know with a card.

A bit of self-care goes a long way

The impact of the economic crisis, COVID-19 and general instability has taken its toll on everyone… and perhaps it shows a little more on your father’s face. Put together a self-care plan for your dad. This could be a spa treatment at a local hotel, or a few facial products to combat signs of anti-ageing (Check out Feel22 and Mint Basil Market for products).

Some fun and games

Order board games online, through the Toters App, and bring some fun into his life. Join in as a family, schedule weekly game nights, and share some laughter. (Check out Boardgame Corner, JoueClub and Le Jouer on the Toters App for some ideas).

Revive the music

Does your father have a favorite song or band that he is always humming to the rhythm of? Check out local record stores, and buy his favorite song or album, as an LP (Check out Chico Records). If you still have a budget to allocate, why not buy a trendy record player too (Check out Virgin for some good deals).

Whatever you choose to gift your father, let him know how special he is… even if you opt for a card.

Wishing every dad and father to be, a very happy Father’s day. May we have brighter days ahead of us all.
