TechCrunch Startup Battlefield is coming to Beirut!
Eager to learn more about the rapidly developing startup and tech scene in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), TechCrunch will be hosting its first startup competition for founders based in that region.
Sponsored by Facebook, TechCrunch is bringing the Startup Battlefield competition to Beirut on October 3 this year. The day-long event will be hosted at Beirut Digital District, the heart of Lebanon's startup scene.
Applications are now open to apply before July 17. TechCrunch editors will vet the applications and choose 15 pre-Series A startups to compete and pitch in front of a live audience.
To be eligible to apply, startups must:
- Have an early-stage company in the “launch” stage.
- Be headquartered in one of these eligible countries: Algeria, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Yemen.
- Have a fully working product/beta reasonably close to, or in, production.
- Have received limited press or publicity to date.
Have no known intellectual property conflicts.
The selected startups will receive pitch coaching from the editors. Teams have six minutes to pitch their company and present a product demo to the Startup Battlefield judges. Out of these teams, the judges will select five to present in a finals round.
The judges include TechCrunch editors as well as top VCs and entrepreneurs. Past winners of the Startup Battlefield include names like Vurb, Dropbox, Mint, Yammer and many more.
The winner will receive the title of “The Middle East and North Africa’s Most Promising Startup” along with $25K (no-equity), a trip for two to compete in the Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt in 2019 as well as exposure, media coverage, networking opportunities, and entry to the Startup Battlefield alumni network. Participation is entirely free and open to all tech startups.
